Start out with the big picture—what is this cruise line known for? Disney is all about the young and the young at heart, and that sentiment holds true for the entirety of the Disney Cruse Line fleet. From on-deck dance parties to dining with “Frozen” characters Elsa, Anna, and Olaf, and much more in between, passengers are invited to be a part of the all-ages fun on the Disney Wish.

Is everything free on Disney cruises?
The company was voted the best large-ship ocean cruise line in Travel + Leisure's 2022 World's Best Awards, and the new Disney Wish is its best vessel yet. We chose to hold our luggage with us, though it was possible to have it delivered down to the terminal. One favorite activity was bingo, which featured a rolling jackpot and took place three out of the four days of our cruise. During our trip, we tried both the whiskey tasting and the beer tasting, both of which were worth the additional cost.

This arrangement allows more guests to get ready at the same time. For example, the restaurant servers knew what our kids wanted to drink by the second or third meal. The room hosts learned who our friends were on board and would let us know where our teens were hanging out when they noticed us looking around. I adored our Alaska sailing out of Vancouver, bringing us to glaciers as well as cities such as Ketchikan, Skagway and Juneau. While my first sailing on the ship was one born of convenience since it was out of my home port of Galveston, it's since moved on.

One-way positioning cruises — that is, those that end in a different location from where they started — are often much cheaper per night than standard round-trip cruises. The high season will cost more, especially during holidays and the summer break. The Disney Cruise Line Navigator app is essential to help plan your cruise at home and comes in handy onboard as well.
However, for Disney Dream's summer European sailings, including the transatlantic crossings, everyone traveling (including babies) will need a passport. A family of four would pay upward of $5,859 for a Concierge-level cabin on a three-night Bahamas cruise, for example. Fares vary by season, cruise destination and theme, as well as cabin category.
If you go during off hours, such as early or late in the day, it's a great experience. However, the pools aren't nearly large enough for the popularity of a midday swim. This adults-only restaurant is open for brunch and dinner, and you can't go wrong with either. However, this is one meal you'll want to book as far out as possible as it's popular and has limited seating. Again, we were a group of four adults traveling together, so we didn’t need to take advantage of any children’s activities, but suffice it to say that kids have a lot to choose from.
Where does Disney Wonder sail from?
Even the dining rooms felt like tables were pushed extremely close together, and it was so loud that I often had to raise my voice or lean across the table to converse with my tablemates. Walking through crowded areas was also tricky since kids would veer unpredictably while ambling slowly, so it was hard to get by; both parents and kids would block stairwells or corridors. I'd heard from many people that brunch at Palo was amazing, and the experience did not disappoint. If you can sneak away for a couple hours, it's a lovely way to enjoy a relaxed, quiet, kid-free meal without missing one of the featured rotational restaurants. It's also good value, leading some people to claim it's the best $50 you can spend on a Disney cruise.

It is common for couples to plan onboard weddings or take their honeymoon on a Disney cruise. My five-night Western Caribbean cruise was a Very Merrytime sailing, complete with holiday decorations throughout the ship, seasonal shows and activities, and visits from Santa. Mickey and friends, as well as my fellow passengers, were sporting red and green attire, too. The ship gets equally passionate about Halloween and Marvel-themed sailings. Don't be surprised to find yourself unexpectedly moved by some of the magical moments onboard -- unexpected little touches that Disney fans refer to as "pixie dust".
The disembarkation process was as magical as the embarkation process. That is to say that it was terrible, disorganized and took way too long. We stood in line for more than an hour both on the ship and onshore as we waited for the immigration clerks to process the many thousands of passengers. The disembarkation and re-embarkation process was smooth, though we did need to board a smaller boat to get to land.
The family-friendly atmosphere is geared towards traveling with kids, and there are plenty of onboard activities to entertain the whole family. Dinner on a Disney cruise is a little different than some other cruise lines. When you cruise with Disney, you’ll take part in the Rotational Dining experience. That means you and your waitstaff will rotate between 3 distinct restaurants nightly. While there are no Disney cruises exclusively for adults, there are plenty of dining options, bars, excursions, and perks geared towards adults on each cruise. Disney Wonder is the second ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet and made its maiden voyage in August 1999.
Disney Cruise Line uses a dining rotation where guests rotate to a different restaurant each night. Guests are seated at the same table number – with the same table guests and wait staff – for every night they are on board. This creates less confusion and a friendly commodore among the guests.
To 3 p.m., we ended up returning early to enjoy lunch on the ship. After that, you’ll need to pay, though the pricing is exorbitant and starts at $19.99 for an additional 50 MB. It’s not that fast, either, according to my mom, who spent the money and immediately regretted it. If you’re the type of person who wants to exercise while on vacation, the ship’s fitness center has you covered. Although I visited only once, I quite enjoyed the well-stocked facilities and the ability to look out over the water while working out.
Though the ship is similar in design and layout to its 1998-built sister, Disney Magic, Disney Wonder cruise passengers will find plenty of subtle differences onboard, including several New Orleans-themed dining venues and lounges. As to itineraries, Disney Magic sails to the Bahamas, Southern Caribbean and Western Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Galveston, New Orleans, and San Juan. Additionally, sailings from San Diego to Baja California or eastbound to Galveston (and vice versa) through the Panama Canal are also available. Disney Magic no longer offers Mediterranean and Bermuda cruises; those are now available onboard sister ship Disney Dream. Beyond its intimate feel, a cruise on Disney Magic is all about attention to detail.
Winners included poached eggs with spinach, asparagus and mornay sauce and the goat cheese flatbread. The mushroom ravioli fell flat, but that was OK because I was getting pretty full by then. The chocolate hazelnut dessert was thankfully small because I only had room for a few delectable bites. This was especially true of the ship's version of "Beauty and the Beast," an abridged version of the story based on the live-action movie. Kids and adults alike were riveted in their seats for an hour and a half, and the performances were stellar, with some of the actors even hailing from Broadway. Pre-embarkation antigen testing is conducted for all passengers prior to boarding Disney Wonder.
However, you'll only know that from the roses on the ceiling and the painting on one wall. Instead, it's quite similar in many ways to all its fleetmates except Disney Wish, which is really a part of the next generation of Disney ships rather than a continuation of the look and feel of the first four. Dry-dock refurbishments are a pretty routine occurrence, taking place every five years or so. Guests are allowed to bring up to two bottles of wine or six cans of beer with them when they board and at each port of call. Rather than cramming everything into a single space, Disney has chosen to create two distinct bathing areas. Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us.
Throughout the cruise, passengers rotate through three complimentary dining venues, and your serving team joins you in the different restaurants each night. Other dining options include the extra-fee, adults-only restaurant, Disney Cruise Line's dedicated Italian restaurant. Sure, young Disney fans are the line's bread and butter, and they always have been. But, Dream does offer evidence that a Disney cruise is not only for kids or overgrown Mouse fans. The art deco decor onboard is elegant and jazzy and imparts an old-world luxury, mostly refined, but with a touch of glitz.
